I am so very sorry for your loss and the families loss. She sounds like an amazing person and doctor. Childbirth should be a time of absolute joy. 10 years ago today, I had a SCAD during childbirth. I honor her and all of the mothers who have experienced loss & grief.

In tears,I continue contemplating how to do better in my field to care for women, particularly those I disproportionately fail. Solutions must come from every angle from addressing legislative systemic racism, in the medical care I provide,& the compassion with which I deliver it.

MamaDoctorJones, don’t feel obligated to comment if you don’t want to, but in general not this case specifically as you’re not their doc, is liver rupture something that results from pre-e? Or something else? I’ve never heard of that happening but obviously I’m not in this field.

As an OBGYN, pregnancy-associated mortality is one of those things that you hope never happens, which unfortunately continues to happen all too frequently. Can’t wait until a cure is found for preeclampsia. Sending good thoughts & prayers to her family. May her soul Rest In Peace.

Oh my god no! In 2020? This truly is the worst year of all time.. this should serve as an in your face example of the rate at which young, people of color, die in childbirth, something that only sounds like it belongs in The Color Purple

Heart breaking. America ranks 55th for maternal mortality and the death rate for black women is more than double that of white women 34/100k vs 14/100k makes me sick. Russia has a better rate than the US.

Profoundly heartbreaking and deeply unfair. My heart goes out to her family and baby.

May we not rest until we fix the broken health care system that failed Chaniece and thousands of other Black mothers.
